Professional Hair Mineral Analysis
A hair mineral analysis is a screening test used to determine how the body is using various minerals. It provides a snapshot of which minerals are in excess and which are lacking. Instructions for cutting hair for hair mineral analysis
1. Hair should be washed and free from gels, oils, hair creams, etc. prior to collecting.
2. For most accurate test results, hair samples should be taken from the nape of the neck or back of the head. (If hair is bleached, dyed, colored, permed or otherwise chemically treated, it is best to wait 8-10 weeks to collect a sample of new growth as chemical treatments can alter test results. Alternatively, hair samples can be taken from other parts of the body, although head hair is recommended.)
3. Be sure to use stainless steel scissors or thinning shears. Cut as close to the scalp as possible.
4. Use the portion of the hair that is 1 to 1 1/2 inches closest to the scalp. For long hair, discard section of hair that is over 1 1/2 inches from scalp.
5. Your hair sample size should be 125-150 milligrams or about a teaspoon. A hair weight scale will be provided in your kit so you can weigh your hair sample.
6. Once your hair sample has been weighed, place it in the hair envelop and seal.
7. Complete the questionnaires and mail along with hair sample to:
